Ubud Writers and Readers Festival 2006
Jul 11th 2006
The international Ubud Writers & Readers Festival promises to charm you once again, with four six of inspiring discussions, creative workshops, literary lunches, book launches, free children’s workshops and special events in one of the world’s most beautiful settings.
Join a host of internationally acclaimed writers including, Anita Desai, Madhur Jaffrey, William Dalrymple, Su Tong, Ziauddin Sardar, Dionne Brand and Suketu Mehta, as they take you on a magic carpet ride of exotic destinations and literary journeys.
The Festival also features an exciting Children’s Program of writing and creative workshops. Leave the kids here while you take a detour through the crowded streets of Bombay with Suketu Mehta, challenge yourself and your ideas on a deserted island with Kanul Basu or let yourself be seduced by the poetry of our Indonesian writers Supardi Djoko Damono, Laksmi Pamuntjak and Acep Zam Zam Noor.
Or take a workshop yourself! Learn the Elements of Storytelling with Shauna Singh Baldwin, the Secrets of Travel Writing with Claire Scobie, the trick to Feature Writing in South East Asia with Michael Vatikiotis, or explore the tastes, sounds and culture of Bali in one of our cultural workshops.
The program will also showcase some of the most dynamic writers in the Asia Pacific region, including: Singaporean playwright Alfian Saat; emerging ‘beat’ poet Angelo Suarez from the Philippines; ethereal Australian novelist Gail Jones; Maori performance poet Apirana Taylor; Indonesian film director Garin Nugroho and; award-winning Malaysian author Tash Aw.
Ubud: a unique literary event in a unique location. There is no other writer’s festival like it!
